Family Education
Education is key among family members whose loved ones are in treatment and recovery. We believe that not only the client, but also the family as a whole, should be educated as to how their family member became addicted and the supportive role the family plays in helping them while in recovery. Our statistics prove that graduates of our program who return to a supportive/educated family environment are less likely to relapse. Addiction is a family illness. Family members, who have struggled alongside their loved ones, often display similar personality traits throughout the duration of the addiction. Their reactions may range from enabling behaviors, which magnify the manipulative activities, and obsessive compulsive behaviors, that over time, begin to mirror the addict’s behavior.

Our goal is to provide support and information to family members through family education programs that are held concurrently as the addicted family member is in treatment. During family education, family members learn to face any denial that they are also suffering and find reprieve from the isolation that they are experiencing as a result of the behaviors of the addict. The family members within the confidence of group are able to reveal their personal struggles with shame, secrecy and isolation. Through this group process family members become empowered and encouraged as they learn that they are not by themselves in the trials of addiction but that here at New Beginnings Ministry, we believe in healing and restoration for the entire family. We love and support not only the client but their family members as well.
